We're looking for an art director who thinks before designing. Someone who can take a strategy, turn it into a concept, and turn that concept into work that sells - first to telecom operators, then to their customers in 50+ countries.
If you're a strong art director ready for more ownership, or a senior who wants a more focused role with a lot of autonomy, read on.
About us:
Whalebone is a fast-growing tech company that protects people from scams, fraud and online threats. We do it through telecom operators: our white-label security product reaches millions of their customers under the operator's own brand.
Our GTM & Growth team works like a strategic and creative agency inside the company. We help telcos launch and grow the product - positioning, sales enablement, campaign strategy and the creative that brings it all to life.
Our work is global, never generic. A campaign for Nigeria looks and speaks differently than one for Brazil, Cambodia or Vietnam. That's exactly what makes it interesting.
The role
- You make tangible what we promise to telcos. When we pitch a positioning like "the safest network" or a growth plan, you show how it looks and works in the real world.
Let's be honest about the mix: a big part of the job is building the visual story behind our proposals and GTM presentations. For us that's not "just slides" - it's where deals are won, and where a good concept first comes to life. The rest is campaigns, key visuals and local adaptations that telcos run in their own markets.
We need a storyteller: someone who can write a creative concept, defend it in a room, and see it through to the final asset.
In your first 6 months, you will:
- Create the creative concepts and visuals behind our telco proposals (e.g. "the safest network")
- Raise the visual and narrative level of our GTM presentations
- Develop, extend or refresh social and digital campaigns that telcos can run locally
- Adapt look & feels so each campaign feels native to its market
- Brief and coordinate local or external creative talent where needed (e.g. Cambodia, our external social media team)
What we are looking for?
- Must have:
- 4+ years as an art director or senior designer in an agency or in-house creative team, with campaign work across digital, social and ideally OOH or video
- A portfolio that shows thinking, not only execution: at least one or two projects where you went from insight or strategy to concept to final work
- Strong presentation and storytelling skills — you can make a complex idea simple and convincing on a slide
- Real international sensitivity: you can make work feel local in very different markets
- Everyday use of AI tools in your creative process today (e.g. Midjourney, Firefly, Runway or similar), not as a plan for the future
- Solid Adobe skills (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and confidence with Figma or Keynote/Google Slides
- Very good written and spoken English
- Comfort briefing and directing external talent such as motion designers, illustrators or producers
Nice to have:
- Hands-on motion or video skills (After Effects, Premiere, CapCut or similar) for GIFs, animations and short-form video
- Experience with mass-market brands, especially telecom, tech, fintech or consumer security
- Experience with B2B or sales presentations and pitch work
- Work for markets in Africa, Latin America or Southeast Asia
- A second language relevant to our markets (Portuguese, Spanish, French, Vietnamese, Khmer…)
Why to work with us?
- Meaningful job helping the company scale and shape a brand-new role
- 20+5 vacation days, a rewarding financial package, performance bonuses, and the option to choose ESOP as a benefit
- Office-based company culture with home office options, up to 4 sick days annually based on your selected working setup, and up to two weeks of Work From Anywhere each year
- You will be supported to learn, grow, and gain new experiences with us
- Regular events & teambuildings – grill, enjoy pub quizzes, or have breakfast with us
- Your opinion will matter to us – discuss your ideas and feedback directly with the CEO or CTO if you feel they should hear them
- Mobile phone tariff available for friends and family members
- Access to the ALZA special benefits program
- Multisport Card available through the company program
- 15% discount on all coffee products on the Coffeespot e-shop
- Access to wellbeing support through Hedepy
